Josephine Elizabeth Seaton Franklin
Josephine Elizabeth Seaton Franklin was a Charter Member and a key figure in seeking the establishment of Theta Rho Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Josephine served as the first Theta Rho Omega Chapter President. She held the Presidential position for four years alongside serving dutifully in various offices such as secretary and historian of the chapter. Additionally, Josephine served on numerous committees at both the Regional and International levels of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.
Josephine Elizabeth Seaton Franklin served on the boards of the East Hazel Crest School District and the Harvey Public Library, respectively. Josephine instituted a reading program at the Hazel Crest and Markham public libraries. These classes convened for over three decades and served elementary and secondary students. She was an active member of the Markham American Legion-Post 828. She possessed the purposes and ideals of leadership through her civic responsibilities. Josephine exemplifies the importance of service, dedication, and perseverance.
Because of Josephine’s leadership and dedication to community service, she was honored by Theta Rho Omega Chapter in naming its philanthropic entity of the chapter, The Josephine Elizabeth Seaton Franklin Foundation, Incorporated.
